Opera Kelowna presents ALBERTINE EN CINQ TEMPS - L’OPÈRA

Albertine at 70 years old rehashes her memories. At 30 years old, she already suspected that the immensity of the sky would never be able to contain her rage. The archetype of the Québec Catholic working class mother from before the Quiet Revolution, Albertine places the spectators in the front row of her existence by revisiting key moments in her life, like so many dramatic strings from a bygone past.

This first opera in “joual” (French Québec dialect) lends a lyrical voice to Michel Tremblay‘s famous play Albertine en cinq temps. Six singers and five instrumentalists will give life to this bewitching music by composer Catherine Major to the libretto by Collectif de la Lune Rouge, staged by Nathalie Deschamps.

This 10 Avril production premiered in 2023. Opera Kelowna presents the Western Canadian premiere.
